But there is also something mysterious tucked inside!
Each issue will bring you a new installment of The Unburning, a story set in 1946 Seattle about a private investigator named B.B. Wolf who discovers something impossible under a flophouse hotel in Pioneer Square.

The Unburning
The Unburning is a serialized supernatural mystery set in 1946 Seattle. Told in monthly installments through miniature correspondence, photographs, documents, and other evidence, it invites readers to piece together the case alongside the detective investigating it.

To the Custodian of this File:
These are the first papers concerning the Waltham Building, 311–313 Occidental Avenue South located in Pioneer Square in Seattle. Keep them together and do not share with anyone. This is a duplicate of my files I send to you for safekeeping.
I have been retained by five men lodging at the Liberty Hotel, 311½ Occidental. Their spokesman is Franklin J. Dwyer, the night clerk and boiler attendant. The men met with me and explained there was ugly business in the basement last year. Several persons were poisoned. The hotel manager and four other men were arrested. Before the place was cleared, dangerous material disappeared from a locked room and was never recovered.
On August 22, workmen opened an old recess behind the coal bins. Inside they found the missing items, but Dwyer reports the original brickwork from 1890 appeared undisturbed and cannot explain how this could be.
There have been other complaints that alone might not be noteworthy but together seem odd enough to investigate. Certain items have vanished only to return days later in better condition, several men have smelled supper cooking in an empty room below the hotel, a woman’s red cloak has appeared and then vanished in the cloakroom, and there are areas of the building where flames simply will not ignite and even electric bulbs appear to dim.
The complainants suspect someone is entering through the old sidewalk areaway. I am not yet satisfied that anyone is. My next step will be to examine the basement in full.

What I’m Working On
When I haven’t been world building for The Unburning, immersing myself in Seattle history, scouring old property records, or reading archived newspapers from the 1930s and 40s, I’ve been destroying and rebuilding a diorama I built in 2025, called “The Haunted Books // Unhook Bad Teeths”. I initially built this diorama as a hidden-in-plain-sight fall display at the Mount Vernon Library Commons.
This piece is a side-by-side diorama that contrasts daytime and nighttime versions of the library. During the day, everything appears normal but at night the books come alive, , signs rearrange to form bizarre anagrams, and a spooky anglerfish librarian named Pearl takes the helm. Here is a glimpse of the new Pearl, made from Creative Paperclay... and probably lots of lipstick.

I’m delighted to announce that I’ll be one of the invited guests at the 2026 Portland Miniature Show, October 16–18 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel. This is going to be a really fun weekend filled with miniature artists, vendors, workshops, exhibits, and an entire “Mini Acres” devoted to dollhouse real estate. Special guests Rachael Harms Mahlandt of Sidewalk Joy and Lara Blair of Tiny Worlds, Big Stories will also be there!
The show is entering a new chapter this year under the leadership of Parrish and Kris Bleau, who also put on the Seattle Miniature Show earlier this year as the new stewards. Their enthusiasm for miniatures and for the people who make and love them is bringing wonderful new energy to this long-running Pacific Northwest gathering!
I’ll be bringing work down to exhibit, including the octopus Postmaster Wanda in Heroes Work Here. Wanda normally resides in a broken parcel locker in an undisclosed location in Seattle, so this will be a rare public appearance.
